Hans Schols
Hans Schols is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada. He was appointed to this position in 1998.
Mr. Schols was appointed President, International Insurance Division, of the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB) in December 2005. He is the Managing Director and CEO of HSB Engineering Insurance Limited (HSB EIL), the international arm of HSB, with offices in the UK, Canada and Australia. He was appointed to this position in November 2000.
Mr. Schols joined The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada (BI&I) in 1985. He was appointed Manager, Technical Services in 1986 and an Assistant Vice President - Inspection in 1987. He was promoted to Vice President - Engineering, Claims and Special Risks in 1989.
In addition, Mr. Schols is Chairman of the Board of Directors of HSB EIL, and is a member of the Board of Directors of HSB Australia PTY Ltd., TSM Agencies Limited and BI&I.
Prior to joining BI&I, Mr. Schols worked for eight years in engineering and management at Shell Canada.
Mr. Schols holds an M.B.A from York University in Toronto, Canada, a Bachelor of Engineering and Management Degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada and a Chartered Insurance Professional designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada.

Roderick W. Hampson
Roderick W. Hampson is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Mr. Hampson joined BI&I in 1984. In addition to his core accountability for corporate finance and investments, he has been an active participant in the general and strategic management of the Company. He has been the reporting authority for several areas of the Company’s operations. He was named Assistant Vice President in 1989, Vice President and Secretary in 2000 and Senior Vice President and CFO in 2001. He became a member of BI&I’s Board of Directors in April 2002.
Mr. Hampson was appointed Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of HSB Engineering Insurance Limited in November 2000. He is a member of the Board of Directors of HSB EIL, HSB Australia PTY Ltd. and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of HSB Haughton, Chairman AIG Canada Pension Committee and Chief Executive Officer HSB Hong Kong.
Prior to joining BI&I, Mr. Hampson was the Controller of Nordic Steel Products. He began his career with Clarkson Gordon (Ernst Young) where he completed the articling requirements for the Chartered Accountant’s designation.
Mr. Hampson holds an Honours Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario and he is a Chartered Insurance Professional. He is a member of the Institute of Directors in the UK.

Tom Howe
Tom Howe is Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Mr. Howe joined BI&I in 1978 and was appointed Manager Boiler and Machinery Underwriting in 1986. BI&I’s Board of Directors appointed Mr. Howe an Officer of the company in 1987 as Assistant Vice President responsible for underwriting. He was appointed Vice President in 1989 and expanded his responsibilities to include property underwriting, claims and the special risks department. He was appointed Senior Vice President and Corporate Secretary in 2002.
Mr. Howe was appointed Chief Underwriter, HSB Engineering Insurance Limited in 2004 and he has relocated to the UK to assume this function. As HSB EIL continues to rapidly expand in the UK, Australia, and other European countries, Mr. Howe works closely with the HSB EIL management team to ensure a consistency of approach in the areas of policy wordings, underwriting guidelines, control systems, and statistical analysis.
Mr. Howe holds a Bachelor of Applied Sciences from the University of Waterloo, is a Professional Engineer and a Chartered Insurance Professional with the Insurance Institute of Canada.
Mr. Howe has represented BI&I on the Canadian Boiler and Machinery Underwriters Association and is a frequent presenter on Boiler and Machinery insurance at the Insurance Institute of Ontario and various industry conferences.
Mr. Howe serves on the Board of the Industrial Accident Prevention Association.
John R. Mulvihill
John R. Mulvihill is Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Mr. Mulvihill joined BI&I in 1990 in Toronto. Following an assignment in Montreal from 1992 to 1995, he was appointed Director of Technical Operations. He was appointed Assistant Vice President in 1997, Vice President in 2000 and Corporate Secretary in 2004. He has held various executive management roles, including responsibility for engineering, claims, inspection and most recently special risks and strategic planning.
Previous to joining BI&I, Mr. Mulvihill worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia, Dofasco and a mining consulting company.
Mr. Mulvihill has an MBA and an engineering degree from the University of Toronto. He is a graduate of the institute of corporate directors Corporate Governance - Directors Education Program. He is a member of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and is a Chartered Insurance Professional.
Mr. Mulvihill does volunteer work at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management as part of their MBA program as well as their mentorship program. He also coaches minor hockey.
Gary Young
Gary Young is Senior Vice President, Field Operations at The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Mr. Young joined BI&I in 1971. He held positions of increasing responsibility in insurance marketing and was promoted to the newly created position of reinsurance manager in 1986. BI&I’s Board of Directors appointed Mr. Young an Officer of the Company in 1988 following which his duties were expanded to include responsibility for all of BI&I’s branch and regional offices. In 1997 he was promoted to Vice President and became responsible for human resources at BI&I. Mr. Young was promoted to his current position in 2006.
Mr. Young holds a certificate in business management from McMaster University and has experience as a licensed Insurance Broker in Ontario.
Dave Picot
Dave Picot is Vice President and Corporate Secretary. He is responsible for Claims, Engineering and Inspection operations at The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Mr. Picot originally joined BI&I in 1981as a marketing services coordinator in Toronto and was promoted to regional representative for Manitoba/Northern Ontario in 1984. In 1986 Mr. Picot left BI&I to join Reed Stenhouse Limited where he held various marketing, sales and management positions over a 10 year period. Looking to get back into Equipment Breakdown insurance, he joined the Kemper Insurance Company of Canada as a Senior B&M Underwriter (B&M) in 1996. In 1997, Mr. Picot rejoined BI&I as Toronto Branch Manager and was promoted to Director in 2003. The Board of Directors appointed Mr. Picot Assistant Vice President in 2004. He was promoted to Vice President in 2006.
Mr. Picot has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario. He earned a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation in 1989 and a Fellowship of Chartered Insurance Professional (Honours) designation in 2006, both from the Insurance Institute of Canada.
Mr. Picot has been a guest lecturer for the Insurance Institute of Canada and served 2 terms on the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s National Underwriting Committee. In addition he recently served as a Little League coach in the Town of Oakville for 3 years.
Brenda Crookshank
Brenda Crookshank is Vice President and Corporate Controller for The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Ms. Crookshank joined the finance department at BI&I in 1991 and was appointed Corporate Controller in 1998. The Board of Directors appointed Ms. Crookshank an Officer of the company in 2001 as Assistant Vice President of BI&I. She was promoted to the position of Vice President in 2004 and is also responsible for information systems at BI&I.
Prior to joining BI&I, Ms. Crookshank held various accounting positions in both public accounting and industry sectors, including over 10 years experience in management accounting.
Ms. Crookshank is a Certified General Accountant, holds an MBA from York University and is a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional with the Insurance Institute of Canada.
Ms. Crookshank has served the Canadian Insurance Accountants Association as Assistant Director of the annual insurance accounting course held at McMaster University for the past two years and is a volunteer canvasser for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
Rob West
Rob West is Assistant Vice President, responsible for Underwriting and Ceded Reinsurance at The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada.
Mr. West joined BI&I in 1989 and, accepting increasing responsibilities in the underwriting department, became Manager in 1993, Director in 2000 and Assistant Vice President in 2004.
Prior to joining BI&I, Mr. West held loss prevention and technical underwriting positions with FM Global and Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada.
Mr. West holds a B.A. Sc. from the University of Toronto and he is a Professional Engineer.
Jacques Trudel
Jacques Trudel is Assistant Vice President of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada. Based in Montreal, Mr. Trudel is responsible for our operations in Quebec and for the Halifax Field Operations Manager and staff.
Over the years, Mr. Trudel has led several new product initiatives including portfolio-based equipment insurance and reinsurance programs for multi-line commercial insurers.
Mr. Trudel joined BI&I in 1967 as Special Agent in Quebec and opened the Quebec City office. In January 1976 Mr. Trudel was promoted to Toronto Branch Manager. In April 1988 he was appointed to Manager of both the Montreal and Quebec offices in the Province of Quebec and subsequently became a Director of the Company. Mr. Trudel was appointed Assistant Vice President in December 2006.
Jean Dubois
Jean Dubois is Assistant Vice President of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada responsible for Field Operations Managers and staff in the Toronto and Calgary offices. He also oversees Client Company business in the Province of Quebec.
Mr. Dubois joined BI&I as an Office Representative in 1987. Over the ensuing years he progressed to roles of increasing responsibility at Head Office, Quebec City, Montreal becoming Toronto Branch Manager in May 2004. Mr. Dubois was appointed Assistant Vice President in December 2006.
Mr. Dubois holds a BBA from Laval University, an MBA from the Université du Québec à Montreal, is a CRM and a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional. Mr. Dubois also assumed significant leadership roles within the Insurance Institute culminating as the head of the Quebec Institute from 1998 to 1999.
Don Cox
Don Cox is Assistant Vice President of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada responsible for Field Operations Managers and staff in the Hamilton and Vancouver offices. He is also the Product Lead for the Inland Marine business.
Mr. Cox joined BI&I as a Marketing Representative in Alberta in 1989 and was promoted to Manager of the Calgary Regional Office in January 1995. In March of 2002 Don was appointed Project Leader for New Product Development at BI&I. In October of the same year Don became Branch Manager in Hamilton and also assumed the role of Product Manager for BI&I’s initiative in Forestry Equipment insurance. In May of 2004 Don was promoted to the position of Director. Mr. Cox was appointed Assistant Vice President in December 2006.
Prior to joining BI&I, Don spent three years in the Sales Department of a plastics distribution company.
Don holds a BA from Laurentian University and has his CRM designation.

Brian Storey
Brian Storey is Assistant Vice President of The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada responsible for the Special Risks Department and has led the new products development team. Mr. Storey was involved with the development and launch of BI&I’s new Equipment Breakdown policy for Course of Construction insurance business.
Mr. Storey joined BI&I in 2001 as Manager of the Special Risks Department and became a Director in 2003. Mr. Storey has over 30 years of experience in Boiler and Machinery, construction and other commercial lines of business both in the U.K. and in Canada.
Prior to joining BI&I he held various positions of increasing responsibility at a major insurer, including managing their high end mid-market Property, Casualty and Auto business while also managing the Boiler and Machinery Department.
Mr. Storey is the current Chairman of the Canadian Boiler and Machinery Underwriters Association (CBMUA) and he led the Canadian delegation at this year’s International Machinery Insurers Association (IMIA) conference in Boston.
Mr. Storey holds a BA in Economics from the Victoria University of Manchester, in England and is a Chartered Insurance Professional.
